We practice Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan, I Chuan (Yi Quan) standing and Chi Gung (Qi Gong) as taught by Master Sam Tam. Wind River Tai Chi Chuan is a group of individuals dedicated to furthering the teachings of Master Tam in the Tucson Arizona area, as well as sharing the spirit and goals of internal martial art that Master Tam so generously teaches. About our Association Name “Wind River” refers to a wonderful mountain range in Wyoming, a pristine wilderness area of the Wind River Mountain Range. Wind River country holds many different things in harmony, people, animals, towns, wilderness, majestic mountains and rivers. The beauty, strength, agelessness and harmony of the Wind River country makes it an appropriate symbol for internal martial arts. The image used on the web site is an overlay of the Wind River Range with structures found on Wudang mountain in China.
The Internal Martial Arts of Master Sam Tam We have been extremely fortunate to have found and be accepted as a A lesson with Master Tam is one of direct hands-on learning Master Tam talks to you about what he is doing and he provides both your mind and body with the theory and feeling of how Internal Martial Art works. As you can see from Manny's smile as he is hitting the floor, he's still laughing because he can't believe he was even thrown. Master Tam's Internal martial art utilizes a unique flow of energy that can be either highly fun or deadly serious, as Master Tam will be quick to inform you. For this reason Master Tam teaches the principles and feeling of Internal Martial art. "Sink the Chi", Sifu will say as you feel a 100lb sack of sand falling softly and/or suddenly on your body. Sifu is a living demonstration of how Tai Chi applied to ones life can manifest. Although he has a distinguished and famous list of teachers Master Tam is quick to point out that knowing this lineage won’t improve ones Gung Fu. We meet twice weekly at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center on River Rd. For more information Windriver Internal Martial Arts Association is a non-profit organization and many of our members our also members of IMAAHE.
